Medical Board Lifts Restrictions Placed on Fertility Doctor‘s Practice

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Arizona Medical Board today lifted the practice restrictions to which Jay Nemiro, MD, had agreed. The vote has the effect of allowing Dr. Nemiro, a Phoenix fertility specialist, to resume his full practice, including ZIFT and GIFT procedures.

Meeting at its Scottsdale headquarters, the Board voted to issue a non-disciplinary Advisory Letter to Dr. Nemiro for using the ZIFT procedure in placing five embryos in a surrogate who later gave birth to quintuplets. The Board concluded that implanting five embryos carried a potential risk of harm to the surrogate and the infants.

Earlier in the day, the Board summarily suspended the licenses of two physicians, the first step towards possible revocation of license. The Board took the actions in separate cases involving Sudhir Goel, MD, of Phoenix and Abdol Arjmandfard, MD, of Mesa for sexual misconduct with patients.
