BOARD DISCIPLINES 3 PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants took disciplinary action against three physician assistants at its August 24, 2005 meeting.

The Board approved Findings of Facts and Conclusions of Law and Order in the cases involving two PA‘s who are married to each other. At its meeting in May, the Board found both guilty of unprofessional conduct. In the case of Troy S. McCarthy, P.A.-C, the Board determined that he had inappropriately dispensed prescription-only drugs, failed to maintain adequate medical records on a patient, failed to conduct a physical exam before dispensing a prescription-only drug, and knowingly made false statements to the Board. The Board order is for a Decree of Censure.

In the case of his wife, Sandra L. McCarthy, P.A.-C, the findings were similar, and the Board approved a Letter of Reprimand for her. Each has 35 days to appeal the Board orders.

The Board also voted to accept a Consent Agreement with Linda Vanderbeek, P.A.-C. The agreement includes a Letter of Reprimand for her failure to report her arrest on possession of prescription-only drugs to the Board. Consent agreements approved by the Board are effective immediately and may not be appealed.

The Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants licenses and regulates more than 1,300 PA‘s. The Board offices are located at 9545 East Doubletree Ranch Road in Scottsdale.
