Scottsdale, Ariz. - Governor Janet Napolitano has nominated Phoenix surgeon, Paul M. Petelin, Sr., to a five-year term on the Arizona Medical Board. Dr. Petelin will replace Ingrid Haas, M.D., on the 12-member regulatory panel. The Arizona State Senate will be asked to confirm his nomination during the 2006 Legislative session.

Dr. Petelin received his medical degree in 1969 from the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska and has had an Arizona license to practice medicine since 1970. He did his internship and residency at St. Joseph‘s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. Dr. Petelin is Board-certified in General Surgery. His other areas of interest are colon and rectal surgery and trauma surgery.

The Arizona Medical Board is composed of eight physician members and four public members, one of whom must be a registered nurse.

The agency licenses and regulates more than 17,500 allopathic physicians (M.D.s). More than ten-thousand have addresses in Arizona.
