Medical Board Summarily Suspends Gilbert Physician

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Arizona Medical Board summarily suspended the medical license of Thomas Grade, M.D., at its one-day meeting in Scottsdale today, because he represents an imminent threat to public health and safety. Dr. Grade whose practice has been in Gilbert is a board-certified physician in four specialties: anesthesiology, internal medicine, pulmonary disease and pain management.

On April 26, 2007, Board staff received a report that Dr. Grade was arrested the day before for assault and domestic violence and that he was intoxicated at the time. Board staff made several attempts to contact him by phone with no response. He did not appear for an investigational interview pursuant to a Board order. In addition, he has not obeyed a Board order to undergo an inpatient evaluation.

The summary suspension entitles the physician to an expedited Formal Hearing before an Administrative Law Judge at the Office of Administrative Hearings in Superior Court within the next 60 days.

In separate cases involving nine other physicians, the Board issued one Decree of Censure with Probation, five Letters of Reprimand and two non-disciplinary Advisory Letters and dismissed one case.
