Medical Board Suspends License of Sun City West Surgeon

Scottsdale, Ariz. - During an emergency teleconference meeting today, August 20th, the Arizona Medical Board summarily suspended the license of David L. Greene, M.D, because he represents an imminent threat to public health and safety. Dr. Greene, who received his Arizona medical license in 2004, has had an orthopedic spinal surgery practice in Sun City West.

After a formal interview with Dr. Greene during its regularly scheduled meeting on August 9th , the Medical Board ordered a Decree of Censure for Dr. Greene for multiple mishandled surgical complications and poor clinical judgment; it also placed him on Probation for two years. Dr. Greene had testified to the Board that over the last year and a half he had not had any major, long-lasting surgical technical complications.

Shortly after the August 9th meeting, however, Board Staff was notified of two recent cases involving patients of Dr. Greene. One developed a post-operative infection and required a second surgery. The second died in the recovery room on May 15th of this year. Dr. Greene failed to make the Board aware of these two cases during his formal interview.

Summary suspension of Dr. Greene‘s license means he will have an expedited hearing at the Office of Administrative Hearings. An administrative law judge will hold an evidentiary hearing and make a recommended order to the Arizona Medical Board. The Board will take up the recommended order at future meeting.
