Medical Board Seeks Informal Comment on Draft Rules for Office-Based Surgery

Scottsdale, Ariz. - The Arizona Medical Board has begun the process of making rules to provide standards for office-based surgery conducted in a physician‘s office or other outpatient setting that is not part of a licensed hospital or licensed outpatient surgical center.

These rules would affect the Board, a licensed physician who performs office-based surgery, a health care professional, staff member, and a patient.

The Board believes that most licensed physicians who are currently performing office-based surgery using sedation already follow the provisions in the draft rules.

The Arizona Medical Board believes that providing clear and understandable rules protects physicians, staff members, health care professionals and patients.

The complete draft of the Office Based Surgery Rules can be found on this Web site. Hover your cursor over “Statutes & Rules” in the menu on the left side of the page. Then, click on “Public Notice of Activity.” Then click the word “here.”

Or you can go directly to the draft by clicking here.

The informal comment period is currently underway. It will end October 13th. Once the Board accepts the draft, the formal comment period will begin. Informal comments may be emailed to the Board‘s Executive Director,Timothy C. Miller.
