GOODBYE BOMEX, HELLO AMB

Scottsdale, Arizona - For almost a century, the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners, commonly known as BOMEX, licensed and disciplined Arizona physicians. Today, the Board shed the name it held since 1903 and adopted a new name, Arizona Medical Board, or AMB for short. “The new name brings to the forefront the Board’s future direction and ambitions,” said Executive Director Barry A. Cassidy, Ph.D., PA-C. “It is a symbol of the constant changes the Board made over the last four years and the improvements it will continue to make in the next century.”

The Arizona Medical Board is not alone in the name change business. The Joint Board on the Regulation of Physician Assistants also changed its name to the Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants. This Board, charged with licensing and disciplining Arizona physician assistants, introduced aggressive legislative changes last year holding physician assistants to many of the same high standards to which Arizona physicians are held.

Both healthcare regulatory Boards expect to unveil new and improved websites to the public this year providing more consumer information in user-friendly formats. To preview website changes or to view a physician or physician assistant informational profile, click on http://www.azmdboard.org or http://www.azpaboard.org. Physician and physician assistant profiles may also be obtained by calling (480) 551-2700 or toll-free at (877) 255-2212.
