Legislative Update

The Joint Board Legislative Sub-Committee presented a document outlining the history of the Joint Board and Considerations for the Year 2002 Legislative Session.  After completing one of its most productive and successful years, the Joint Board is dedicated to become an agency which is more responsive to the public and more accountable to its regulatory mission.

The Sub-Committee also presented the Sunrise Application and proposed legislative framework to the Board.  The Joint Board cordially invites all stakeholders of the Joint Board community to participate in the creation of its 2002 bills.  The meeting will take place at the Board’s offices on September 18, 2001 at 9:00 a.m.  Board staff will be recommending the following bills:

·        An administrative bill that only contains operational provisions.  These provisions have been successfully enacted by the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners (BOMEX) during the past three legislative sessions.

·        A Prop 108 bill that addresses Joint Board fees

·        A bill that results from the Arizona Sunrise process giving physician assistants appropriately expanded scope of practice provisions to match current training and education that will provide better healthcare service to all Arizona citizens.

A copy of the Sunrise Application and the Considerations for Year 2002 Legislative Session are available for review.
